High Esteem's Camp Goodwill (HECG) was established back in 1996 to meet the unmet needs of children and young adults with physical disabilities and of special needs in the Central New York area. Our organization provides summer residential camping programs as well as year round activities for the these campers. Our main focus is the needs of these children and young adults as well as how we can help them enjoy life.
Mission: We can not change the disabilities that our campers may have but, we can help them live with them and help them face their own daily challenges with others who face the same hurdles of life. We will provide recreation through rehabilitation. High Esteem's Camp Goodwill seeks to continually develop and increase access to a variety of recreational activities and events for handicapped and special needs children and youngs adults.
Purpose: The purpose of the organization is to provide recreational as well as therapeutic programs to children and young adults with physical disabilites and of special needs along with their families. The organization primary serves New York but, is eager about expanding. Specific purposes of High Esteem's Camp Goodwill include, but are not limited to: making recreational activities accessible & available to handicapped and special needs children/young adults; Developing and/or restoring our campers' self esteem, confidence and self worth; Helping children/young adults with special needs to develop or enhance coping skills, self advocacy skills and other necessary life skills, in a non-threatening, interactive, recreational environment; Helping families of children through mutual support and supportive interaction; Assisting agencies that serve special needs populations in providing appropriate and/or additional recreational services and programs.
Area: High Esteem's Camp Goodwill is located just outside the Syracuse area in the beautiful Chittenango Falls Valley in Chittenango, New York. The facility is designed to accomodate the physically handicapped. We currently serve all of New York State with an emphasis on the Central New York counties.
Needs: High Esteem's Camp Goodwill(HECG) exists because people like you, people who give of themselves unselfishly with enthusiasm, energy and from the heart. We need volunteers in a variety of areas throughout our camp programs as well as year round events. Our organization is constanly seeking out people our various camping programs to be counselors, help with special events, arts and crafts, kitchen help, infirmary and maintenance. In addition, volunteers also play a crucial role in High Esteem's year round fund-raising efforts. We are able to continue our mission in large part due to the funds raised by individuals such as yourself. Another area of continually needed volunteerism is definitely within our office where you might assist with mailing brochures, answering phones, typing, filing and perhaps even contribute some writing to our newsletters, etc.
As you can see, volunteers are needed in all capacities of High Esteem's Camp Goodwill. If you have an hour, day and/or week...

High Esteem, Inc. is continuing a legacy of caring for special needs populations at Camp Goodwill that began almost fifty years ago!
HECG prides itself on above standard ratios between campers & fully trained staff. In addition, although our facility could house dozens more, none of our sessions exceed thirty campers, so that we can maintain a high standard of personalized care & attention toward each and very camper who attends a camping session at HECG.
